Today we partnered with Bonfires Blood Centers to spread awareness about how important it is to give blood. Did you know that every 2 seconds someone in the U.S needs a transfusion of donated blood? I was just talking to my mom last week about a blood drive she set up at her work for people to donate and she was telling me about how the women working were telling her that there is a shortage of blood right now and not as many people are donating. I was so shocked, I grew up giving blood and was just surprised that hospitals are experiencing a shortage of donated blood. So when the opportunity came to work with Bonfires Blood Centers I jumped on it. Blood is one of those things you don't think about until you or a loved one is in the hospital. So I thought it would be a great post to remind everyone to get involved and #beimpulsive. Next time you have the opportunity make sure to give blood and save lives.
I recently learned that every 1 blood donation can help up to 3 patients and that patients being treated for cancer, orthopedic surgeries, heart surgeries and blood disorders are the patients who use the most blood. It's not the accident or trauma victims like you would automatically think.
Here's the good news, blood can be donated every 56 days up to six times per year! I probably won't be able to make it 6 times per year but I definitely can commit to a few and I bet you can too! Make Check out BeImpulsiveRSVP.com to see how you can get involved.
